Week V in Ordinary Time

Lectionary No. 331

1Kings 10:1-10; Psalm 37; Mark 7:14-23

"When he got home, away from the crowd his disciples questioned him…" Mark 7:17

The Queen of Sheba “questioned Solomon on every subject she was interested in, and there was nothing he could not explain to her.” She said to him, “Blessed these servants of yours, who stand before you always and listen to your wisdom.”

It is even more blessed to live in the presence of Jesus and listen to him. Jesus literally knows everything about everything. He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. And if we question him, he will answer. But we have to go to him “away from the crowd” and ask him, not about the trivia people commonly talk about, but about the kind of questions we ask, and he answers, in the depth of our hearts.

Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness” (John 8:12). He may leave us in the dark about things that have no lasting importance. But if we ask him about things that matter, we “will have the light of life.”

Friendship with Jesus is something to work at. We have to tap his mind. Ask him questions. Think about his answers. Then we will appreciate him.

Friendship is relationship. Relationship is interaction. Interact with Jesus.

Friendship is interaction. Interact with Jesus and your life will be ever-dawning light.

ACTION: Talk to a friend about something deep. Then talk to Jesus. Compare.

PRAYER: “Lord, be with me. Let me be with you.”
