Our Vision

Immersed in Christ (IIC) represents the life’s work of Fr. David M. Knight, whose greatest desire was to create a pathway to deep relationship with Jesus Christ. He wanted to make the path taken by the great saints and mystics of the ages available to all the “ordinary” people in the pews. Such a path, explained in practical and concrete terms, would help people have “life to the full” and help make Christianity a way of life.

We at Immersed in Christ are laity, deacons, and priests, whose lives have been transformed by walking the five steps laid out by Fr. Knight’s plan. It is our desire—indeed, our mission—to continue making that pathway available to future generations via this website. We personally know Immersed in Christ to be an engaging and highly effective plan of spiritual formation.

In short, IIC explains and makes explicit the five-fold mystery of Baptism, which

1) transforms us into Christ;

2) calls us to be disciples;

and consecrates us to continue the three-fold mission of Jesus Prophet, Priest and King by

3) bearing witness as prophets,

4) ministering as priests by Baptism, and

5) taking the responsibility of leadership in establishing the reign of God on earth in peace, justice, and love.

The Immersed in Christ Plan for Spiritual Growth includes enough programs to engage a parish or a group for six weeks or up to six years and more. It will inspire and guide personal reflection for a lifetime.

If people simply had a better knowledge of Jesus, Fr. Knight would say, they would fall in love with him and follow him. Immersed in Christ provides the path for all of us to do so.

Our Founder

Father David M. Knight was born in Dallas, TX, on September 2, 1931 and died in service to the Poor Clare Sisters in Huehuetenango, Guatemala, on March 21, 2021. In that ninety year span, he was (and this is a partial list) a Jesuit priest, a diocesan priest, an instructor of spirituality at numerous universities, a chaplain to five different communities of women religious, a college campus minister, and a world-renown speaker on religious vows and lay spirituality.

Fr. Knight held a master’s degree in philosophy from Gonzaga University (Spokane, WA); a licentiate in theology from Seminar des Missions (Fourviere), Lyon, France; and a doctorate in theology from Catholic University (Washington, D.C.).

In his lifetime he gave more than 500 workshops, missions, and retreats across six continents. A prolific writer, he authored more than forty books, dozens of booklets and manuals, and over 50 articles in 29 different periodicals. His best-selling second book, His Way, put him on a mission to the laity, calling the “ordinary” people in the pews to perfect holiness and leading to the Immersed in Christ plan of systematic spiritual formation.

As all who encountered him can attest, Fr. Knight chose to live like a poor man. He was an apostle who held his relationship with God of paramount importance for his life.

He had no hidden agenda. He clearly believed and had his focus that if people had a better knowledge of Jesus, they would fall in love with him. His whole adult life was about striving to go deeper into the mind of Christ so he could live and love through Christ.

On behalf of Fr. Knight, we invite you to join him on this journey.

Testimonials

“Immersed in Christ has provided material which I will apply for the rest of my life.”

“It caused me to look more closely at the ways I am living out – and the ways I am not living out – my Christian faith. Rather than scold or “make lists” of “must do’s” it spoke to hindrances to action and encouraged overcoming them.”

“While I could fill pages with the incredible experience this program is and talk about what I have learned or what I have had revealed to me, I am going to focus on one point: change. I am not the same. I have changed. And the change for me is to take the action to know God in a deeper way. I may have wanted to know God more deeply in the past, but I am now willing to commit to take the action to know Him more deeply. And the growth program [Immersed in Christ] has been the reason for the change.”

“Here’s what I love about the program: it ensures that I keep seeking, learning and sharing my faith. It doesn’t feel like a “program.” It’s not a cookie-cutter approach, because everyone has a unique relationship with Christ. It’s not overwhelming. It is filled with ideas, questions for reflection, and practical suggestions for deepening relationship with Jesus and understanding what it means to be the Body of Christ.”

“I have learned that with each decision and action, I make a difference. I have learned that my true job has nothing to do with my career path, and everything to do with how I am Christ at work. I have learned that since we are all the Church, I am called to be an active member of my parish family. I have learned that God needs me.”
