We Share Our Father’s Mind

God promised to make “a new covenant” with us, one not based on observance of laws, but on the gift of living union with God in mind and heart and will.
I will place my law within them and write it upon their hearts.
No longer will they have need to teach their friends and relatives how to know the Lord.
All, from least to greatest, shall know me.
No longer does God say, “I will be their God, and they shall be my people.” Now he says, “I will be their Father, and they shall be my children.”
The New Covenant is not just a relationship of mutual agreement. It is a relationship that consists in actually sharing one and the same life, brought about by dying and coming to life again “in Christ,” reborn “by water and blood” (John 3:5; 1John 5:6). This covenant depends on the blood of Christ, the “blood of the New Covenant,” which he shed as “Lamb of God” so that sins—all obstacles—might be “taken away.”
For this the Father asked Jesus to die. Jesus could have insisted, “Father, save me from this hour.” But he and the Father were of one mind: “It was for this purpose that I came to this hour.” Jesus lived to reveal the Father’s love: “Father, glorify your name!”
ACTION: Whenever you obey God, think of yourself as one in mind with him.
PRAYER: “Father, glorify your name!”
