Examining Our Lives

So what is happening is that confession is revealing the fruits of an examined life. Personal reflection, guided by Scripture reading and discussion, is opening new doors to wider horizons, more challenging ideals, deeper self-knowledge, and higher levels of faith experience.

To those who are disciples, students of his mind and heart as revealed in his word, Jesus said, “You will know the truth. And the truth will make you free”—free from the minimal narrowness of codified laws, free from the distorted assumptions of cultural conditioning, free from the inadequacy of others’ predigested insights, no matter how brilliant and penetrating they are.

By sitting at the feet of the Master himself, we will learn directly from his mouth the Truth we our- selves need to absorb in order to find the Way we ourselves must follow if we want to live “life to the full” in our own particular time, space, and circum- stances(John 8:32; 10:10;14:6).
