Our Father Makes Us A Mystery
We are his handiwork, created in Christ Jesus. Ephesians 2:10
The human nature God created is so impressive that Psalm 139 sings to God as Creator, “I praise you, for I am… wonderfully made.” But now we are a “new creation,” the Father’s infinitely better handiwork, re-created in Christ Jesus by “grace,” the favor of sharing in God’s own divine life.
Our being is a “mystery”—“a truth that invites endless exploration.” We might eventually understand human nature completely—through philosophy, psychology, biology—but we will never understand our divinized nature completely because it is infinite: inviting endless exploration.
Christians can never be bored. The Father, for all “ages to come” will be showing us “the immeasurable riches of his grace in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.” We will never stop growing in knowledge, appreciation, and enjoyment of the True, the Good, and the Beautiful that we see in ourselves “in Christ.”
See what love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of God; and that is what we are. The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him (1John 3:1).
To know our mystery is to know the mystery of the Father—“by his favor we have been saved”—of the Son, whose body we are, and of the Spirit poured out in our hearts.
ACTION and PRAYER: Frequently during the day, remember God’s presence in you, touch your heart, and say “My Lord and my God.”
