Living Prophetically

To make one’s lifestyle a visible sign of personal and empowered commitment to the new life of Christ present in the world—this is what it means to be a prophet.

Christian witness requires us to live a lifestyle that raises eyebrows, one that, in its own way, is just as radically arresting as the sackcloth and ashes of public penitents in the early Church. What we should be confronting in confession is the sincerity — and practical demonstration—of our concern to give this kind of witness.

In other words, if we stopped believing in Jesus, what concrete choices would we make as a result that would be visible in our lifestyle? If we stopped believing in Jesus, who would notice? How significantly different would our behavior be?

If we cannot think of any significant changes, we would make in our way of living just because we no longer believe in Jesus, what is there in our lifestyle right now that gives proof positive we do?
