Week 1 in Ordinary Time
Lectionary No. 307
1Samuel 3:1-10, 19-20; Psalm 40; Mark 1:29-39
"To do your will, my God, is my delight, and your law is within my heart!” Psalm 40:8
Frequently people have mixed motives for what they do: a good one, and a not-so-good one.
We are not always consistent.
Jesus’s disciples saw in him someone so pure (unmixed) of heart, that they always knew he was doing what he said he was.
In today’s Gospel, after healing crowds of people, Jesus rose early and went off to a deserted place to pray. When his disciples found him they said, “Everyone is looking for you.”
Healing makes you popular.
Jesus said, “We’re leaving. Let’s go on to the nearby villages so I can preach... That is what I came for.”
Jesus did not come to be a popular faith healer, but to make the Father known and loved. And to give us “life to the full” (John 10:10).
Not just human life; God’s Life, eternal life.
And this is eternal life, to know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent (John 17:3).
That is not always what people consciously want. Nevertheless, it is what Jesus always acted to give. Even when we killed him for offering it.
Jesus’s actions matched his words.
Friendship is interaction. Interact with Jesus and he will inspire you to say what you do and do what you say.
ACTION: Be consistent. Frequently ask, “Is this what I’m here for?”
PRAYER: “Lord, do this with me, do this in me, do this through me.”
